Growing in Knowledge
Growing in Knowledge
Our prayer today is a request to grow in knowledge:
It is written: "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight." (Philippians 1:9)
This was the Apostle Paul's prayer for his friends at Philippi. If you want your love for God to grow more and more, in knowledge and deep insights, then today's prayer is for you.
LET US PRAY -
Our Father in heaven, we come to you as God Almighty - as the great I AM, the God who is self existent, and does not need to depend on any other for anything. We come to you as the tender-hearted God - the one who is moved to action by the troubles that we experience, and the God who cares for His creation so that not even the most worthless of his creatures - the little vermin ridden sparrows - die without your knowledge and sadness.
Thank you for your word to us in our text today. Your desire for each one of us is that we will, and can experience your love for us more and more. Father, we are reminded that we are incapable of loving as you love by ourselves. It is only as you increase the capacity of our hearts and minds that we can love as you love. We hear you say again this day, "We love you ONLY because you loved us first." So our love is a responsive love. We love in response to your love for us.
So our prayer today really is, Lord help us to understand your love - not just theoretically, but in our experience. And please give us insights into your love - how it operates, how we are involved - its depth and length and height and breadth. And our prayer is our God, that as we understand and experience your love more and more, that we become more loving too.
God, please give us that knowledge and insight as we read your story in your book. Help us to be drawn by the wonder of your amazing gracious love, that you love even the unlovely.
I pray for each of our prayer friends today. I ask this prayer for them. Please open each mind to understand your love, and give each a deep insight into the mystery of your divine love, and may this be seen in their lives, as they love as you love.
Hear our prayer of praise our God, and our request for your love in our lives.
Answer our prayer according to your will because you know best.
And we pray in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
